Lindstrand Hot Air Balloons in the Community

29th March 2010

The UK-wide “Science Week” in March brought fresh interest from schools local to Oswestry, hoping to visit Lindstrand Hot Air Balloons to learn about the science and technology behind the manufacture and flight of hot air balloons.

Kelvin Oakley, part of the Sales team at Lindstrand, welcomed 27 children and 4 parents / teachers from Trefonen Primary School, who toured the factory for an hour, learning how balloons are manufactured, how they work and answering numerous questions.

Later in the month Carreghofa Primary School brought 46 children followed by Mount Pleasant Primary School from Shrewsbury with 66 children and 8 adults / teachers!

Also keen to learn more about hot air balloons are the Young Farmers. The Whittington and Oswestry Young Farmers Club recently visited the factory for an evening tour.

Kelvin believes that these tours contribute to Lindstrand’s profile in the community, and are also a good way for the factory team to support local groups and initiatives.  Other groups visiting have included Shropshire & Powys Round Table, Welshpool, Oswestry and Shawbury ATC,  The Air Scouts from Shawbury, The Boys Brigade from Telford and the Rotary Club of Oswestry Borderlands.

“I’m very happy to come in and do these evening tours, and all I ask for is a donation to the Welsh Air Ambulance” says Kelvin. Factor tours are limited but interested groups should contact Kelvin Oakley via email: Kelvin@lindstrand.co.uk
